Rasik is honored to present the solo Boston debut of internationally acclaimed Odissi artist Bijayini Satpathy, one of the foremost interpreters, innovators, and choreographers of Odissi dance today.

A celebrated performer, scholar, and teacher, Bijayini has redefined the possibilities of Odissi through a career spanning more than four decades. Following her distinguished 25-year tenure as a principal dancer with the renowned Nrityagram Dance Ensemble, she has emerged as a visionary solo artist and choreographer whose work has been presented at leading venues and festivals around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Duke Performances, Baryshnikov Arts, Prithvi Theater Festival, and Krishna Gana Sabha in India. She has served as Artist-in-Residence at the Metropolitan Museum’s Department of Live Arts and the Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Center, and has been a Fellow at the Center for Ballet and the Arts at NYU. Her many honors include the 2023 Dance Magazine Award, the 2020 New York Dance and Performance (“Bessie”) Award, and several prestigious recognitions in India.

Rāgachitra is a celebration of the profound relationship between music and dance. Rooted in the rich tradition of the Indian rāga system, the work explores how melody shapes poetry, evokes imagery, and deepens emotional expression in dance. Through a nuanced and deeply personal choreographic lens, Bijayini reveals the many dimensions of the dialogue between movement and rāga, creating a performance that is both rooted in tradition and strikingly contemporary.

The Multicultural Arts Center is located at 41 Second Street in Cambridge, MA. Please enter at the ground floor entrance and visit the Box Office on your right as you enter.

Once you check in, you will head upstairs to the theater. There is an elevator and staircase for access to the theater.

Seating is general admission. Box Office will open an hour before the show starts, so you are welcome to arrive early. Feel free to visit our gallery before the show begins.
