The color red has captivated artists for centuries. Red, made from ochre, was one of the first colors used in prehistoric art. To this day, the many shades of red are amongst the most evocative colors out there. In fashion, you’ll find glimpses of red throughout every era and trend. From Alexander McQueen’s compelling use of red in infamous collections such as his 1998 Autumn/Winter collection titled Joan, where a red figure stood engulfed in flames, to Givenchy’s influential crimson sheath on Audrey Hepburn in the 1957 musical Funny Face.

With red having historically played a role in some of the most iconic moments in fashion and art, we’re now curious to see how today’s generation of artists will continue the legacy.
